This summer, Rising Tide students in grades 6-12 participated in the Energy Solutions for Climate Change movement through the Jill S. Crafts Summer Scholars Program, named for Rising Tide’s former Head of School. Students engaged with experts and conducted field work to understand climate change in our local region. They learned about energy solutions and the impact we can make in the Rising Tide community. Participants studied rising sea levels and temperatures and examined the impact on ecosystems and fisheries. A review of solutions, including clean energy alternatives and a trip to the Museum of Science, complemented the students’ research and experimentations. The Jill S. Crafts Summer Scholars Program was created in honor of Jill Seeley Crafts, Head of School at Rising Tide from 1999 until 2018. Ms. Crafts led the Rising Tide community with a trust in students as thinkers and learners whose experiences and ideas are essential to the topics they will navigate together with adults. Carrying on her legacy, the summer program was created to focus on the development of skills in taking responsibility, building relationships in our community, synthesizing findings, and presenting findings through public speaking.
Rising Tide also hosted Summer Painting Studio students had the opportunity to expand on their visual art skills while exploring acrylic painting in a fun and informative studio workshop.
