New York Art Gallery Features Work of Rising Tide Visual Art Teacher

Artwork by Rising Tide visual art teacher, Brad Nelson, is currently being featured at a gallery in New York City. His artwork is on display at Frosch & Portmann and marks Mr. Nelson’s sixth exhibition with the gallery. Frosch & Portmann, which is open to the public and free of charge, will be displaying Mr. Nelson’s work from January 16 through February 23, 2020. His still-life paintings of everyday items found in domestic life were also featured recently in New American Paintings.

An experienced educator as well as a practicing artist, Mr. Nelson began his position as upper school visual art teacher at Rising Tide in 2011. Before this, he taught at Falmouth Academy, Walnut Hill School, Roxbury Preparatory Charter School, as well as Boston Architectural College and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, now a part of Tufts University. For three years, Mr. Nelson and his wife, Lucy Beecher Nelson, co-chaired the arts department at the Verde Valley School in Arizona before they relocated to Massachusetts. He received his MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and a BA in Photography from the University of Kentucky.

Mr. Nelson teaches a variety of art classes to Rising Tide students in grades 9-12. He offers Visual Art Foundation, which is a drawing class for ninth-graders, and he teaches drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture to students in grades 11-12. He enjoys helping students work through their ideas and content in addition to supporting their development of technical skills. Mr. Nelson also offers a portfolio workshop that helps students put together cohesive artwork in preparation for college admissions. He has inspired many students to continue their art studies in college.
