Athletics Update

The Volleyball team faced Plymouth North on Monday. The girls had their usual high level of energy that was impressive to everyone at the game. Although the team lost the match, the serving improved with each set, and the communication was much stronger by the end of the match. 
The Boys Varsity Soccer team made another step towards the state tournament this week with a 1-1 tie against Cape Cod Academy. Damon Rocchi scored his first goal of the season and made great contributions in the tie. On Tuesday, the boys lost a great match against Sturgis East (2-1).The Girls Varsity Soccer team hosted Cape Cod Tech on Friday and won 7-0. On Tuesday, the team hosted Sturgis East. Alex Phaneuf started the attack with a goal 20 minutes into the first half, followed by Peyton Joyce 11 minutes later. The Tide defense, led by Madison Nordberg and Tessa Nyhan, shut down Sturgis East and contained any scoring opportunities for the visitors. The Herons continued to build on their first half success, netting three more goals in the second half, two by Striker Priscilla Martinelli and one more by Peyton Joyce. Gabriel Swift recorded another shutout with the 5-0 win. The team has qualified for the state tournament!
The Cross Country team hosted a tri-meet against Cape Cod Academy and Nauset at Morton Park on Tuesday, October 22nd. The boys lost to Nauset (45-17) and won against CCA (22-33). The Girls lost to Nauset (39-18) and won against CCA (15-50). The Middle School Boys Soccer team faced St. Francis Prep school in the first round of the Cape Cod Super Six playoffs and won 5-3. The team overcame an early 0-2 deficit and took control of the game with outstanding play on the offensive side from Eben McNeil, Owen Kelly, Ollie Durgin, and Lucas Swift.  Gerard Sytangco, Liam Hoagland, and Cam Leonardo also shored up the defense with solid play to secure the win. In the Championship game, the boys battled hard with a gallant effort, but came up short with a 2-0 loss. Ian Thompson, Declan Rivera, and Khalil Senat all contributed to create multiple opportunities in the offensive zone while Cody Mazzoli, Cam Sadler, Zeke Ingersoll, and Noah MacKenzie all helped anchor the defense.   

The Middle School Girls Soccer team competed in the Cape Cod Super Six tournament this week. On Wednesday, the team beat St. Pius X 3-2 in a thrilling penalty kick shoot out. Summer Nickerson made two great saves in the shoot out. On Thursday, the team competed in the championship game and lost to St. Francis 4-2. Gabby Letendre and Hannah Winiewicz led the team on offense, while Annalie Wendel and Maria Tomich played strong on defense. Lily Meyer helped control the midfield.
